Most of the studies about the economy of Ferrol in the 19th century focuses on its main industry, the naval sector. The first aim of this paper is the study of the whole private business sector in the city and its hinterland during the nineteenth century. Companies and capital investments are the instruments used in the research on the business supply. Besides, the work investigates the links between the rhythm of the economic development in the area and the evolution of the public shipbuilding.
