The author inserts the study of the pastoral legislation into the general reform of the Church which takes place between the XIII and XVI centuries. Starting with the analysis of the particular legislation introduced in the five galician dioceses from the IV Lateran Council to Trent's Council, he studies the changes produced by this new pastoral focus in what preaching and sacraments were concerned. The analysis of the social impact of the new pastoral approach and, specially, its vinculation to the ecclesiastic model that follows form the same legislation, are the main aims of this paper. The new ecclesiastic model is not present in medieval Galicia, what explains that very limited results were obtained there by the reform.
