The town of Ferrol experienced an important demographic increase during the second half of 18th century, thanks to the erection of the new crown arsenals in its port. The prospects opened up by this new situation, lead to the arrival of an important number of foreigners, highlighting the British, French, Italian and Portuguese contribution. The British attained an important role in the organization of the arsenals and the French held a privileged position in the town's commerce.
