The Pampillón Fund: the sound memory of emigrant Galicia

Abstract

Segundo Pampillón is part of that large group of Galicians who was forced into exile in Argentina after the start of the Civil War. His relevance on the political level, his active militancy in the Galician community in Buenos Aires and his facet as a “radio man” define him as a protagonist of that Spanish-Argentine context of the mid-20th century. This article contains a general review of the collection of recordings that Segundo Pampillón accumulated throughout his life and represents an example of listening practices, non-commercial recording practices and, above all, a sound “still photo” of the Galician community in the Buenos Aires context. Finally, it delves into some relevant examples of the transnational dimension of the repertoire contained in this collection of open reels.
